Our History

Women in Construction was founded in 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas, by 16 women working in the construction industry. Knowing at that time women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized to create a support network for each other. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its National Charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

Our Journey

The Fort Worth chapter of NAWIC has been, and will continue to be, instrumental in mapping out new roads for the future of women in construction. Not only as office support staff, but as business owners, financial experts, marketing directors, project managers, tradeswomen, and field personnel, as well. As women employed in a non-traditional trade, we have been accepted in our industry due to the role our founders played in setting the groundwork for us.

Our Mission

The association committed to championing women to impact the direction of the construction industry. NAWIC provides education, community and advocacy for women.
